MORs | Basics of Measured Ongoing Responsibilities

In the LeadFirst Management System, Measured Ongoing Responsibilities (MORs) define the key functions you need to be good at.

  • Every MOR has a quantifiable measure that tracks the performance of the area of responsibility.
  • So a MOR is the larger area of responsibility, and the measure is your current metric to track the performance of this area.
  • Your individual plan will likely have three to five MORs, and together they describe all the key areas you manage. You can think of MORs as the primary responsibilities in your job description.

Create a new MOR

You can create a MOR from a plan, work breakdown, or your to-do list from the blue-plus. In a message or meeting, you can create a new MOR by typing @ > open Create New > select MOR.

  • Name your MOR to clearly represent the area of ownership.
  • Select who is responsible for the MOR.
  • Set the Stage status to one of the following
    • Draft - not yet active in the system
    • Proposed - makes the item active but not yet accepted by the owner
    • Accepted - the item is active and the owner has accepted responsibility for the MOR
  • Indicate if it is a work package. Work Packages typically apply to projects and not MORs. See our article on work packages to learn more.
  • Describe how you will measure the MOR. See the next section for more details.

Choosing a measure

Every MOR should have a clear measure of success. This should be quantifiable and tracked. For example, if your MOR is "Manage Website," your measure may be "Traffic" or "# of Appointments Set." Or, if your MOR is "Hiring," your measure may be "Days to Hire" or "# of Open Positions."

If you cannot yet identify a hard quantifiable measure, you can, for now, use a qualitative measure description. For example, if your MOR is "Dashboard Management," your measure may be "Internal User Satisfaction," with no specific way to measure it. Or, if your MOR is "End of Month Reporting," your measure may be, "Complete reports on time," again, with now specific measure.

However, the goal should always be to move qualitative measure descriptions to quantitative.

Whatever the case, make sure every MOR has a clear measure and you and your manager agree on it.

Add measure data

You will eventually want to start tracking data for your MOR. To learn more, see Add Measure Data to a MOR.
