Add Measure Data to a MOR

Measured Ongoing Responsibilities will often feature data and visualizations demonstrating performance. Two primary ways to import that data into LeadFirst exist.

When you open a MOR's measure tab, you will notice an option to add notes. We've included a series of questions for you to consider when thinking about data tracking. Take a look and record your answers, especially if multiple people or teams/departments will be viewing and using the data.

Link external spreadsheet

If you already track data for this Measured Ongoing Responsibility in a spreadsheet (Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers, etc.), you can link to that data. This allows you to manage the data as you have in the past yet have it visible in LeadFirst.

First, make sure your spreadsheet is in an external cloud storage system (OneDrive, Google Drive, Box, iCloud, etc.).

Simple External Link

Get a shareable link to your spreadsheet, making sure to set the editing rules as your situation requires.

Then, back in LeadFirst, open your MOR's Measures tab, click Add link.

Add your shareable link and enumerate what text or name you want to be displayed for the spreadsheet.

You can now access your data from LeadFirst.

Embed Readonly Visualization

You can also make the entire spreadsheet visible (read-only) within LeadFirst by embedding it.

Back in your spreadsheet, find the option to Share and select Embed. NOTE: you may need to be in the web version of Excel (or whichever program you are using).

From the Measures tab, open the screen's three-dot menu > and select Advanced options.

Paste your embed code and Save.

Note:

If your spreadsheet appears too small or too large, you can adjust the size of its iFrame. You can set your width to 100%, but the height will need to be a specific pixel height. We recommend 400-600. Feel free to play around with this adjustment until you have the look you want.

The embed below is set to width= "100%" height "450."

You can access any other sheets/tabs available in your spreadsheet. You can also include charts and visualizations.

Use LeadFirst's data storage

You can also start collecting data directly in LeadFirst or import from a spreadsheet.

From your MOR's Measure tab, open the Advanced Options.

You have three options:

  1. Choose existing measure data. If you know your data is already in LeadFirst, you can hook up to that existing measure data.
  2. You can also import measure data from a spreadsheet
  3. Or you can create new measure data

Choose existing measure data

From the Advance Options, choose Choose existing measure data > from the list of available datasets, find which you wish to link to > open that row's three-dot menu > click Link to MOR.

Import measure data from a spreadsheet

From the Advance Options, choose Import measure data from a spreadsheet.

  1. Name your dataset
  2. Add a description for other's know the purpose of the data
  3. Identify an area to keep your dataset library organized
  4. Select who is responsible for the data; they will be able to make changes to these settings in the future.
  5. Choose if you want messaging available for the dataset.
  6. If you want to be able to edit rows after import, select this option.
  7. You can add security to the data if it needs to be private
  8. Then Browse to File to begin the import. Your data must be "flat," i.e., no charts or subsections. Simply headers and rows of data. You can use our template if you'd like.

In step 2, you can edit your fields. To remove a field, click on the row's three-dot menu. To edit a field's settings, click on the hyperlinked name of the field.

Here you can make several modifications to the field:

  1. A key uniquely identifies each row in a table. When you add a row to a table, that row must have a unique key value. The row's key value must remain constant for the life of the row. When you update your data with a future import, the key is used to find the row to update or delete. You can use a combination of fields, such as date and order #, to uniquely identify rows.
  2. Change the name, or label, of the field
  3. CAUTION: Only change the Field Name, the name the system looks at, if you understand technically why you need to. In most cases, you should leave this unchanged, even if you change the field label.
  4. The system identifies what type of data you have in this field. If it is incorrect, you can adjust it.
  5. If your field is numerical, you can set the number of decimals
  6. Is Caption turns the field into a hyperlink which opens that row's form.
  7. If a field is required, on future imports only rows with that field complete can be added. This also applies if the data is editable and you add a new row via the add form.
  8. If you group rows in your view of the data, you can choose a group aggregate. For example, you can sum that field's values for the group or identify the count of rows.
  9. You can also set the overall aggregate...
  10. ...and the overall aggregate caption.

When you are finished updating fields, those field settings will be saved on future imports for this dataset. Proceed to step 3 to preview your import and then step 4 to complete the import.

Create new measure data

You can also start from scratch with a new LeadFirst dataset. When you select this option, you have a few settings to consider.

  1. Determine if the values will be numbers or percents
  2. Set the number of decimals you wish to display
  3. When viewing the data, you can group the rows, for example, by date. If you do group, what aggregate value do you want to show at the top of the group? Sum or average, or none.
  4. We start you with our template of a simple dataset with these fields: Timeframe, Date, Target, Actual. So before you create the dataset, we ask you how many future years you want to create.

This is what you new dataset will look like.

To change/add/remove fields, open the screen's three-dot menu > and select Settings

We explained a dataset's settings in the previous section.

Remove data from MOR

If you previously linked a dataset but want to replace it with another. You can remove it. in the MOR's Measures tab, open the screen's three-dot menu in the upper-right > and select Remove Data from MOR.
