This form will guide you through a series of questions to help define your department's purpose. It's a chance to clarify your team's mission, values, and strategic goals.
Consider your department’s unique role within the company. What are your key responsibilities? How do your contributions contribute to the overall company objectives?
By clearly articulating your department's purpose, you'll create a shared vision that inspires and motivates your team.
In this article:
Edit purpose statement
Go to the main menu > My Snapshot.
Open Purpose under "Oneness."
Click the screen three-dot menu > select Edit.
Complete each section. You can use Save & Continue to be sure and not lose your work. Click Save when finished.
View purpose statement
Individual contributors can view their department's purpose and the company's purpose.
Go to the main menu > My Snapshot.
Open Purpose under "Oneness."
Example purpose statement
What we do (types of products/services)
‘Build widgets that help people do XYZ’
Who we serve (target customer/market)
‘Care dealerships within 100 miles of Columbus’
What makes us different (why choose us)
‘Service: onsite, same-day service’ – not the cheapest but the most reliable
What We Value (character traits of organization)
- High trust relationships (customers, employees, community, family)
- Doing the job right
- Fun – working with people should be enjoyable
What we believe (foundational assumptions about truth)
- Every person has infinite value because they are made in the image of God
- People are created to win at work AND home – they support each other
- We may have different beliefs, but we can still get along and respect each other
- Honest mistakes are huge learning opportunities
- Reasonable profits are a mark of good stewardship of our resources
Why we do it (the bigger motivation)
Work is a blessing – through it, we raise our families, help our customers, and make the world a better place.
